I have been busy adding my Norfolk prints to this website so you will be able to buy prints as well as notebooks and cards very soon. Perfect for all you Norfolk lovers out there who would like some Norfolk scenery for you living or work space. Even if you don’t know Norfolk, I am sure you will enjoy the views. You must come visit!

The prints are of the coast, Norfolk Broads and our fine city of Norwich. I have lived in Norfolk since my twenties but I’m not going to tell you how long that is, I will just say it’s a very long time!

I hope that seeing Norwich and Norfolk through my eyes, you will come to love it just as much as I do (if you don’t already).

As well as colour photography, I do like to shoot in black and white. Street photography is a secret vice for me. I may sell some of those prints here too in time.

You will find the odd nature/wildlife print too, I am not a wildlife photographer but if an owl, swan, goose or of course a seagull, presents itself, I am usually ready with the camera.

For me, photography is a huge part of my life. I hope you will enjoy the images and keep me in food and clothing by buying some of them.

Check out my alter ego author self @PetraKidd too. If you love quirky short stories, she has a few to tell. Visit PetraKidd.com to find more and subscribe there too to keep updated with Petra’s book news.

New! Writer’s Notebooks

Notebooks for writers, including: Creative thoughts, Novel ideas, Work in progress. Tactile softback books to get creative with.

This week I have been working on a new collection of notebooks specifically aimed at writers. Being an author myself (PetraKidd.com), I really do know the value of having a good notebook to hand to make sure ideas never go astray.

I love a notebook to be tactile and easy to write in. Good quality paper that helps the ink glide is a must too! There is a certain pleasure in seeing characters, plots and random thoughts laying within a notebook in my own handwriting. It is too easy to lose the art of handwriting if you don’t use it everyday. I spend an inordinate amount of time tapping away on my Mac so it is refreshing to physically jot characters, plots and new story ideas in my notebooks.

With my scatter brain, if I open new files on my computer or phone to record notes, I often forget what I named the document or where I filed it and I end up wasting time trying to find it again. On the whole, I am pretty organized, but it is easy to get distracted and lose things in the millions of folders set up to make life easier!

My notebooks solve this problem, or at least they do for me, so they may do the same for you. I find it much easier to find what I am looking for in a notebook and somehow, seeing it in my own handwriting makes it more personal. It’s lucky I don’t have handwriting like most doctors!

This new trio of writer’s notebooks have a writer’s quote on the inner front page and 160 lined pages inside. Simple and effective.

I hope you will enjoy using them if you decide to get one for yourself. The images on the cover are by @MyriadLifePhotoArt (yep I am also a photographer). Lately, I have been enjoying more black and white photography so I thought I’d use it for this series. I like the simplicity and the idea of thoughts and ideas flowing like the tide. The swan is to symbolize new ideas taking off for a ‘work in progress.’ The grey is for the grey matter in our brains that we use to form genius thoughts and create stories.

You can buy a writer’s notebook by clicking on the images above and below.

Subscribe to keep updated with new notebooks & journals. Every month I create a giveaway so it’s worth subscribing to be in with a chance of winning a free book!

Happy writing!

Make it a colourful 2022!

With all the stresses of the pandemic and life in general, what can be more fun than to sit down and get artistic? As well as being a writer and publisher, I am also a photographer and I thought it would be an interesting experiment to turn some of my images into colouring pages.

Not all images lend themselves to the transformation but I have picked out the ones I think work best. Below is a sample of some of the printable images available via my Etsy store.

They are great for artists or anyone who needs to take their mind away from everyday distractions and who enjoys the scenery Norfolk has to offer.

I am working on a book of these colouring pages so look out for that, I will post via my social media when it is available. I will also add colouring pages to this website so that they can be bought and downloaded directly. Eventually there will be more generic ones such as animals and flowers too. I have a huge number of images to trawl through to convert as I have been a photographer for many many years, so keep coming back for updates.

You can check out some of my photography here via Photo4Me

While I am here, it would be remiss of me to point out that there is a FREE giveaway at the moment here on this very site. If you’d like to be in with a chance of winning a 2022 Daily Planner featuring one of my images on the cover, please hit the subscribe button below. The giveaway deadline date is Friday 7th January and available to UK subscribers only (apologies to my overseas visitors!) Visit the link to see more details.

I try to create a giveaway every month so it is worth subscribing. February may be a good month to do a colouring page giveaway and that would go worldwide as I will create a printable download. Hey, what a good idea! I just thought of that as I was typing. Don’t be shy, subscribe!

I write short stories as Petra Kidd

Are you old school or modern techie?

Technology is great isn’t it? You may agree or disagree but I absolutely love it.

I use my smartphone all the time to search the Internet, answer emails, update my calendar, check my mum’s OK, take pictures, post on social media, Whatsapp my friends, check the news, identify the stars I see in the sky… the benefits seem endless to me. My phone is always with me. Don’t get me wrong, I do not constantly look at it but it is not only a portable office, it’s a portable entertainment system too.

My main computer is like an old friend (it’s around 10 years old now) and I greet it each morning with affection. I love to work on it, and play… I write, do admin, watch movies, research and update my blog, edit pictures and create notebooks. I carry it out to my balcony on finer days so I can enjoy the weather as I work. I’d be lost without it.

Then there’s Alexa, always ready to play my favourite tunes. What’s not to like!

Yep, I am a 21st century girl, loving all the apps, the ability to connect with people all over the world and to constantly learn not only from home but wherever I go.

So why do I love to use notebooks? Well, I suppose it’s that old school thing, like when people don’t only stream music, they buy vinyl records or they don’t simply read their books via Kindle, they also like to thumb a good paperback. I also love to ride my bike even though I like to drive my car too.

Variety is the spice of life but there is more to it than that…

When I pick up my notebook it feels like a comfort blanket. There is still that sense that technology can let you down whereas a notebook can’t. Unless you spill tea over it or accidentally set it on fire or leave it somewhere, it’s there for you. Also, I love to see my handwriting, it doesn’t often get used these days other than to write birthday cards or notes to my boyfriend. It’s very noticeable when I don’t use my handwriting for some time, it gets scrawly as if I’ve forgotten how to hold a pen. I like to think of people years from now, coming across my notebooks and trying to decipher what exactly my life was about. I think of them as potentially historical documents (not necessarily all that important but they may be of interest to social scientists one day…) at least I like to think so.

I used to use different notebooks for different subjects but I’ve stopped doing that now. Quite frankly it got confusing. A fellow Gemini friend had the same problem while she was doing her MBA and was advised to stick to one notebook. I mention our star sign as I think it is in our characters to be easily distracted and have too much on the go at one time. |t’s good advice. I don’t spend time now trying to find the right notebook. Anything personal, business or writing related all goes into one and it’s much easier to find what I need that way. Others might disagree and if you prefer to have different notebooks for different purposes then that’s your prerogative, do whatever works for you!

I started to design and create my own collection of notebooks earlier this year and it has become a passion for me now. A nice tactile notebook is a real pleasure to use and I’m determined to create notebooks that writers will love to use. There is nothing more encouraging to write than having a trusty and attractive notebook by your side. It’s a great place to jot down those brilliant ideas that come into your head at 2am…When I started designing my own, it really made me think about what I use them for. As much as I love a simple lined notebook, I decided that shaded lines look good too and are pleasing to the eye. As I’m a photographer it was a no brainer to add my images to the covers and I created a square notebook with pictures of seals on each page as I love the character in their poses. So now when I write my notes, whenever I open up my notebook I see a cheeky seal which makes me smile.

Inspirational quotes are always useful too. I regularly use them as a pick me up when things don’t feel like they are going my way. It’s comforting to read the words of the great and the good to help me on my way. Recently I designed three notebooks with the titles ‘Be a star in whatever you do.’ There are three colours to choose from and inside you will find star quotes from authors and philosophers. Again, this helps with writerly and life inspiration. They have shaded lines inside. Subscribe to my website and you could be in with a chance of winning one of these notebooks. Read more about it here.

I have also created a specific collection of notebooks aimed purely at authors with titles such as ‘Novel ideas,’ ‘Writer with Attitude’ and ‘When inspiration strikes…’ I want authors to have notebooks that are especially for them as they feel like my tribe. I love to think of all those stories that will be created in my notebooks, some may even become famous, that’s a really special feeling!

At some point soon I will write a blog post about famous authors and their notebooks so look out for that.

Sometimes I leave my balcony office and get out on the water, I’m lucky enough to live by the River Wensum in Norwich. A day out canoeing takes all the stresses away. Please feel free to comment on this post, it’s good to communicate!

The Isolation Sex Stories…

Every day I learn something new… here I share it with you.

If you are a new author or anyone trying to sell a book of some kind, here is a website you might find useful. I know I do!

Now and then I make great discoveries and if it saves you time and energy so much the better. We are all here to learn.

Lately, (on Twitter) I have seen a few writers wondering about how to make their links universal. I had the same problem and with a bit of research I came across this site booklinker.net. If you have published your book on Amazon but want to include as many countries as possible in marketing links you post on social media, through Booklinker you can shorten the URL and direct whoever clicks on the link to the Amazon site of the country they reside in.

This saves having to cut and paste links from amazon.com, amazon.es, Amazon. It etc to get your book(s) seen all around the world. It’s a really useful timesaver.

You get a choice of link styles as you can see below. I generally use mybook.to but I guess it is good to mix it up if you feel so inclined.

Booklinker also logs which countries traffic comes from so that you know which ones are providing the most hits on your links. As Amazon KDP doesn’t give you this kind of information it’s really useful and interesting to have access to.

Here is what the information looks like for one of my books.

I am sure you will be happy to know that BookLinker is a free tool, provided by the intelligent link management company Genius Link, for authors, publishers and marketers to create localised links that work no matter where in the world your audience is. Simply sign up and go! There is a premium option available too.

Of course there are other sites that do similar URL shortening so you might want to research those too.

I’m not being paid to promote Booklinker, I’m simply writing posts like these because I know how frustrating it can be trying to find the right information sometimes. I will keep my post tips short and sweet on the whole as again, when I’m looking for information I like it when the article cuts to the chase.

Please leave your comments here if you have any tips on this topic.

Of course, if you’d like to buy a notebook to show your appreciation of free information, that would be great! But no pressure. Everytime you do buy a notebook it helps me create more and helps fund my writing ambitions as PetraKidd.com.

You can follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook – it’s good to connect!

Here’s an idea, please subscribe below to get my blog updates…then we can keep in touch. If you have a blog, let me know about it and then I can follow you too.

Thanks for reading… more coming soon!
